John Harbaugh's latest coaching update leaves Ravens fans baffled

The Baltimore Ravens fell at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, dropping to 1-5 on the season. Their Week 6 effort was sloppy, and the team undoubtedly needs to hit the reset button.

Their bye week comes at the perfect time, as their season is on life support, and another loss could be detrimental to their playoff hopes. In a competitive AFC, many believe their year is over, but Head Coach John Harbaugh believes Baltimore can weather the storm.

With the schedule getting easier after the bye, a complete turnaround is not impossible. However, the odds are obviously stacked against them. While quarterback Lamar Jackson is expected to return in Week 8, the team still needs to make significant changes to look like a competent team in the coming weeks. The most notable of those changes could be the coaching staff.

There is a clear sense of urgency to resolve the issues, but despite the urgency, Harbaugh does not seem to understand why the coaching staff’s leadership has been put into question. Following the loss on Sunday, he assured everyone that no staff changes would be made over the bye week.

“I don’t have any plans to [make staff changes],” Harbaugh said. “I don’t know why [the staff question] always comes up. I love our guys; they work hard, and I think they’re doing a good job of coaching. Certainly, we can do things better.”

John Harbaugh has no plans to make coaching staff changes

Ravens fans have been calling for Harbaugh to be fired, as well as Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken and Defensive Coordinator Zach Orr. Nobody has to be fired, but it is evident why the coaches may be on the hot seat. For Harbaugh to say he does not understand the reasoning for the question feels disconnected.

The defense has been one of the worst in football history, placing 32nd in points per game in 2025. The offense looks lost in recent weeks, having only scored three touchdowns in the past three games, and even when Jackson was on the field, the rhythm of the operations and coaching was out of sync. They consistently fail to play at a high level for all four quarters and struggle to close out games.

There are various problems the Ravens must fix. It does not have to be coaching. They can be schematic, game-planning, and starting units. Regardless, they have to switch up their approach if they want any shot at salvaging this season. The coaching staff is getting complacent and fails to make adjustments time and time again.

The offense almost always starts hot and fizzles out by the end of the game, and on defense, they have a clear problem with getting off the field on third downs. These issues have remained a constant under the leadership of Harbaugh, Monken, and Orr throughout each of their tenures, and if it does not change over the team’s week of rest, the future could be in question.
