San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch appeared to cool speculation about a potential Joey Bosa signing this week, stating, "I know that would make Mama Bosa happy, but I don't know if we can afford him."
However, that hasn't stopped media outlets from continuing to connect the veteran pass rusher to the 49ers, viewing the pairing as an ideal fit—even if Bosa's price tag remains a potential obstacle for San Francisco.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report is the latest to list the 49ers as a top landing spot for Bosa, noting that his expected salary may be limiting interest across the league.
"Bosa will turn 31 in July, and he isn't likely to be had on a truly team-friendly deal," Knox wrote. "His contract with Buffalo last season was for one year and $12.6 million. Many teams will view Bosa as a short-term option, and an expensive one at that."
So what could change? If Bosa remains unsigned, he may become more flexible with his asking price to ensure he's ready for the start of the 2026 season. Knox suggests the veteran defender could ultimately agree to a performance-based contract.
While Bosa forced five fumbles last season, his pass-rush production has dipped. He hasn't reached double-digit sacks since 2021 and has recorded just five sacks in each of the past two seasons.
"The prediction here is that Bosa agrees to an incentive-laden deal to join San Francisco, which recorded just 20 sacks as a team in 2025," Knox added.
Meanwhile, the market for former 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings has not developed as many expected. Despite entering free agency with hopes of landing a significant contract, Jennings remains unsigned.
While opportunities could still emerge, Knox identifies the Tennessee Titans as the best landing spot for the physical wideout—a connection that has surfaced repeatedly this offseason.
"Jennings is a very sensible option for the Tennessee Titans, who employ former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as their head coach," Knox wrote. "Tennessee needs to improve the supporting cast around second-year quarterback Cam Ward. Jennings would be a great perimeter addition.
"The Titans added Wan'Dale Robinson in free agency, but he's a slot specialist. Adding Jennings would give Ward the sort of big-bodied possession receiver he currently lacks."
