The Micah Parsons drama has been so intriguing that John McEnroe brought it up during the US Open on Tuesday night.
ESPN had the McEnroe brothers, John and Patrick, on the call for Tuesday night's first-round match between Alejandro Tabilo and Alexander Zverev. During the second set, Patrick mentioned how college football's season is about to ramp up with a loaded Week 1 slate. He also mentioned the NFL season is nine days away from starting up with the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.
That comment sparked a very relatable question from Patrick's older brother.
"Any word on Micah Parsons? No signing huh?" John McEnroe said. "Oh boy, what is going on over there?"
Parsons, a four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher, has compiled 256 total tackles, 112 QB hits, 52.5 sacks and nine forced fumbles since joining the Cowboys in 2021. He's hoping to receive a massive payday that'll make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL.
According to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, he had a deal in place that was essentially voided by Parsons' agent, David Mulugheta.
“We had our agreements on term, amount, guarantees and everything. We were gonna send it over to the agent,” Jones told Irvin. “The agent said, ‘Don’t bother because we’ve got all that to negotiate.’ Well, I’d already negotiated that. I’d already moved off my mark on several areas. The issue, very frankly, is we’ve had the negotiation in my mind. The agent is trying to get his nose in it and trying to come in there and improve off what we’ve already said.”
That tension between Jones and Mulugheta has many people wondering if the Cowboys will part ways with Parsons. After all, he publicly requested a trade in the beginning of the month.
As of now, a trade for Parsons isn't in the works. However, popular social media user by the name of "Rickey Scoops" claims the Green Bay Packers have an offer on the table for the Cowboys.
The Packers are willing to pay Parsons $45 million per year, according to this rumor. It hasn't been confirmed by any top-tier insiders, such as Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter.
While we doubt the Cowboys entertain trade offers for Parsons this fall, it's possible the two parties go their separate ways next offseason. When the dust finally settles though, we expect them to work out their differences and strike a long-term deal.
