The Las Vegas Raiders are banking on their young offensive line taking the next step up in 2025.
The Raiders need to protect new quarterback Geno Smith, while also doing their part to fix a league-worst rushing attack. There is some locked-in stability from last season, with Kolton Miller and DJ Glaze reprising their roles at the starting tackles in 2025. While the Raiders could still look to acquire a developmental option in case Miller leaves in free agency next year, they are set out at the edges.
However, the other three spots on the offensive line are up for grabs, with general manager John Spytek revealing what the Raiders plan to do at those positions.
According to the Athletic’s Vic Tafur, Spytek is looking to hold competitions at both guard and center for 2025. Jackson Powers-Johnson, Dylan Parham, Alex Cappa and Jordan Meredith will compete for the two open guard spots, while everyone other than Cappa will compete at center.
One interesting detail from our chat with John Spytek: the Raiders are looking at four guys competing for the two starting guard spots: Powers-Johnson, Parham, Cappa and Meredith.
And the three other than Cappa will compete for the center job.— Vic Tafur (@VicTafur) March 31, 2025
Out of the four, Powers-Johnson is the one most likely expected to hold down a starting position. The 2024 second-round pick of the Raiders, Powers-Johnson closed out the 2024 season as the starting center. While he also offers guard versatility, it is expected that Powers-Johnson will retain the starting center role.
That leaves Parham, Cappa and Meredith at the guard spots, and all three should be relatively close.
Parham is the 2022 third-round pick of the Raiders, starting 47 games over his three seasons in the league so far. Cappa has connections with Spytek and minority owner Tom Brady from their time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the 96-game veteran has struggled with injuries over the past couple of seasons. Meredith, despite having by far the least experience with only nine games to his credit, graded out as Pro Football Focus’ fifth-highest graded guard in 2024.
Whichever way the Raiders choose to go, the offensive line is certainly not lacking in options for this upcoming season.
