Johnny Manziel Opens Up About Suffering $100,000 Loss

Former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel opened up about a dark time in his life right after the Cleveland Browns cut him after the 2015 season. The former first-round pick admitted that he quickly lost $100,000 at a casino during that time.

Manziel lasted just two seasons in Cleveland after the team drafted him in the first round back in 2014. His time there was messy, with problems both on and off the field. Once the Browns finally let him go, Manziel said he really struggled to handle it.

The former Heisman Trophy winner recently shared details about the casino loss. He explained how he took out casino credit and just kept betting, completely getting addicted and losing track of how much cash he was throwing away.

Manziel said he received $100,000 in casino credit and started gambling soon after Cleveland cut him. He recalled losing money in smaller amounts before the losses added up.

“I remember, after I get cut in Cleveland, I learned about casino credit and getting a wire and walking to the table and taking $100K out and being like, ‘All right, start with 10, lose it, another 10, 20,’ and you look up by the end of a weekend, you’re going out and you’re drinking and you just fly through a hundred grand,” Manziel explained.

He also described how he chased his losses during that period. Manziel said he later took another trip and went on a winning run before the casino contacted him about the unpaid balance.

“No problem, no worries. Chasing, just a tough spot to be in,” he said.

Manziel then recalled receiving a warning that he had 24 hours to pay the casino marker.

“And it was like, ‘Oh, we got to get 100 grand to this Cosmo right now or all (expletive) is about to break loose.’”

Manziel now remains in a decent financial position.
