Former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel is rooting for one team's demise this season, that's for sure.
Manziel, a Heisman Trophy winner and two-time All-SEC quarterback, had 7,820 passing yards, 2,169 rushing yards and 93 total touchdowns at Texas A&M. His pro career wasn't nearly as prolific. In 14 games with the Cleveland Browns, he completed 57% of his passes for 1,675 yards with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Though it's been a decade since Manziel last suited up for the Browns, he's still bitter about the way things played out. He made that clear while on the "Nightcap" podcast.
"I think I will always be looked at and viewed at because of how much hype and media and everything that was around me, and the city of Cleveland expecting me to be great, and that ultimately not panning out," Manziel said. "I sit here today and I’m like, ‘F*** it, I think I’m going to be pissed at them and hate them forever.’ So, it is what it is, man. No love for the Browns, I’m rooting for 0-16 seasons every season
The Browns can't go 0-16 this season since there are 17 games, but we get what Manziel was trying to say.
We're not sure 0-17 is in the cards for the Browns, but they definitely don't have a Super Bowl roster at their disposal.
For starters, Cleveland has a crowded yet lackluster quarterback room right now. Joe Flacco is set to be the team's Week 1 starter, with Dillon Gabriel listed as the primary backup. Shedeur Sanders will be the emergency option on game days.
The Browns will begin their regular season at home against the Cincinnati Bengals. It certainly sounds like Manziel will be rooting for the road team.
