Jon Gruden Flirts With Return to NFL, Makes Super Bowl Promise to Prospect

After resigning from the Las Vegas Raiders head coaching role in 2021 due to an NFL investigation finding discriminatory emails, Jon Gruden has since returned to the media.

In a surprising move, the former Super Bowl-winning coach signed on with Barstool Sports last November, where he is creating all kinds of content for the company. One piece of content that Gruden has brought back this month is his videos with draft hopeful quarterbacks, which on ESPN was known as "Gruden's QB Camp," but has since been rebranded to "Gruden's QB Class" with Barstool.

His latest episode featured Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers, who was ranked as the No. 1 recruit in both the 2022 and 2021 classes after reclassifying. Ewers had a productive career at Texas, throwing for 9,128 yards with 68 touchdowns to 24 interceptions, while leading the program to two conference title appearances (one win), and two College Football Playoff appearances.

When talking to the Southlake Carroll product about his various tattoos, Gruden made a promise of sorts regarding some ink of his own.

"Man, I come back and coach you," Gruden said to Ewers. "We win a Super Bowl...I'll stamp something on my freaking body too man."

While Gruden seems to be enjoying life in the content creation world, his name did emerge as a "hot" candidate for a handful of coaching vacancies this past cycle.

"Gruden is expected to be one of the “hot” candidates among teams looking for a new head coach, a person with knowledge of the situation told Front Office Sports," wrote A.J. Perez of FOS in January. "Earlier this week, NFL Network reported that multiple teams have weighed hiring Gruden."

It is unclear whether or not he truly wants to return, but clearly those around the league are open to welcoming him back.
