On Thursday, Sept. 11 night the Green Bay Packers are set to host the Washington Commanders in a battle of NFC contenders.
Jayden Daniels led the Commanders to the NFC title game during his rookie season and picked up where he left off, throwing 233 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 68 yards in Washington’s 21-6 season-opening win over the New York Giants. Jordan Love and company took care of business against the Detroit Lions in a 27-13 dominant victory where Love was a surgical 16-of-22 passing for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
New Packers linebacker Micah Parsons and Commanders head coach Dan Quinn previously shared the sideline together with the Dallas Cowboys and became rivals when Quinn left to become the head coach of the Commanders.
Now they'll face off once again following a trade that surprised Parsons' former coach.
“I was surprised that he was traded, and I had an absolute blast coaching him,” Quinn said. “He brings out the mad scientist in you to see: ‘All right, what if he was here and how would you feature him? And what about over here?’"
As Parsons and the Packers defense prepare to face off against one of the best quarterbacks in the league, former NFL coach Jon Gruden thinks they're in for a tough battle.
"This is a tough one to pick. I mean I want Green Bay - hell, I used to coach there, but I'm going to go with Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders," Gruden said while holding up a pair of sneakers.
"Jedi 5 they call them. He gave me these shoes, these recovery shoes. I know he feels good because even I feel good. This guy is a pleasure to watch and I just think you’re gonna see one of the great high effort games of the season. 23-20 Commanders find a way to win on the road."
Green Bay and Washington kick off at 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video.
