2026 NFL Draft: Jonah Coleman Scouting Report

Jonah Coleman was a three-star recruit coming out of high school before committing to the University of Arizona. As a true freshman, he was a complementary back for Arizona, totalling 375 yards on 75 carries. He earned a bigger role as a sophomore and was the Wildcats’ leading rusher for 2023. After over 1,000 yards from scrimmage, Coleman entered the transfer portal and moved to Washington. 2024 showed what draft junkies will be excited about Coleman for, as he topped 1,000 yards on the ground with a physical rushing style. As a senior, Coleman dealt with nagging injuries throughout the season, but he played through them and even opted to play in Washington’s bowl game to close out the season.

Strengths

  • Wrecking ball once he gets going, his 0.31 missed tackles forced per attempt would rank high in every running back class.
  • Fluid for his size, adept acceleration and deceleration to find space.
  • Consistently falls forward and will be an excellent goal-line back in the right system.
  • Good hands and a solid option as a safety valve in the passing game.
  • Sets defenders up at the second level with patience in the backfield and great vision in a zone scheme.

Weaknesses

  • Inconsistent pass blocker, wants a knockout blow instead of just defending his quarterback.
  • Lacks breakaway speed, doesn’t have a sixth gear in the open field.
  • Very limited in the receiving game, he’s a safety valve, not a difference-maker there.
  • Slight struggles with ball security in 2025, but it was the first time it’s been an issue.

Pro Comparison: Josh Jacobs

Team Fits: Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, Tennessee Titans

Projection: Round 3

Bottom Line on Jonah Coleman in the 2026 NFL Draft

Jonah Coleman is a throwback, physical rusher with enough juice in the passing game to be a three-down back. Teams will want to have a complementary piece to threaten homerun plays, but Coleman is like meal prepping. It’s not pretty, it’s not cool to talk about, but chicken and rice five times a week will be better than eating out every day. He can be a steady chain mover for an NFL team looking to get more physical in their rushing attack in 2026 and beyond.

Jonah Coleman Dynasty Outlook

With Jeremiyah Love as the clear RB1 in the class, draft capital and landing spot will move the RB2 slot around. Coleman is my early front-runner for RB2, and I could see him go as early as the 1.08 in some leagues. His limitations in the passing game will keep the ceiling relatively low, but he’s an absolute monster at the goal line, and he could have a 12+ touchdown season before all is said and done. For dynasty leagues that draft before the NFL draft, Coleman should be a target before QB3 or some of the more murkurial wide receivers.
