Jonathan Taylor reportedly requests trade after meeting with Colts owner

The relationship between Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts seems to be beyond repair

The superstar running back has reportedly requested a trade away from the Colts after meeting with team owner Jim Irsay on Saturday.

That report comes from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, and comes just days after Irsay and Taylor's agent sent a series of ominous tweets on the state of their relationship and the running back market in the NFL.

Irsay does not seem to be taking the news well, and made this bizarre quote via the Athletic's James Boyd.

Obviously the NFL would still continue to go on, but as long as Irsay and Taylor are both in the league it would seem to be in the former's best interests to have the latter on his team.

Taylor figures to be the next running back at the center of a difficult contract negotiation as the top players at the position continue to fight for bigger contracts.

He is entering his fourth year in the league and is one of the best players at the position. He is also the Colts' best player and the focal point of their offense.

But Irsay's public comments — and apparently his private comments as well — have pushed Taylor away from wanting to continue to play for the team.

It's not only bad news for the Colts as a team, it's also pretty terrible news for first-round pick Anthony Richardson. He is already entering a tough spot in trying to be a rookie quarterback on a rebuilding team, but Taylor at least figured to be a good safety net for him as a star running back that could help control the ground game and take some pressure off of him.

But unless something dramatic changes over the next few weeks, he might not get that option.

It will also be interesting to see what the trade market for Taylor would look like.

He is one of the best players in the league, but if teams are unwilling to sign running backs to big money contracts why would they be willing to offer up a significant package in a trade for one? This is going to be quite a story to watch unfold.
