Ironically, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love says he and his teammates are feeling the love.
No, they're not just feeling him as the quarterback. They're feeling themselves as a homegrown unit that's top 10 in the NFL in yards per game with 383.1 and points per game with 26.6.
They're a young but thriving group that — outside of a rough week from Romeo Doubs — has put ego and pride aside to do whatever head coach Matt LaFleur has asked of them. Whether that's a ton of blocking when Malik Willis was the quarterback to going out and catching lasers from Love, the likes of Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks, Bo Melton, Tucker Kraft and Doubs seem to finally be coming into their own as a unit.
“There’s definitely a lot of love, that whole group, the receivers, the tight ends, everybody on offense,” Love told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated after Green Bay's latest win over the Houston Texans. “There’s a lot of love and trust in that group. We’re all younger guys that worked our way into this position of being here. We’ve done a great job of sticking together, building that chemistry and trust. I think we’ve got a really great group that can build and grow together. I’m excited about the guys we have."
Love is in his fourth NFL season, but he spent two backing up Aaron Rodgers, so he's playing through his second as a starter. Watson and Doubs are in their third years, while Kraft and Reed are coming into their own as stars after tremendous rookie seasons.
Throw in a solid offensive line and a star running back in Josh Jacobs (who is averaging 4.5 yards per carry this season and is fourth in the league with 540 rushing yards), and this is a young Packers offense that should continue to become more and more explosive.
It all starts and ends with Love, but he's got plenty of help on this journey.
“We’ve very deep in the receiver room and the tight end room with playmakers that just go out there and make plays when the ball comes their way," Love said.
Next up for this unit is a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that is giving up 376.4 yards per game, so expect more fireworks from the Packers in Week 8.
