Jordan Love has the perfect perspective about the Packers WR1 narrative

So much has been talked about what the Green Bay Packers will do with its wide receiver room. They have good pieces, but at the same time a real wide receiver one would certainly help—something that running back Josh Jacobs stressed last week.

Quarterback Jordan Love had to handle that situation, navigating a fine line between the egos of his current teammates and the desire to get better. So he just deferred the process to the front office.

"At the end of the day, the guys we have in the locker room going into training camp, I'm a competitor. It doesn't matter who we got. We'll find a way, that's the beauty of the game," Love said on the Up and Adams show. "Obviously, every year it's a new team, faces change, you got a new draft class coming in. You gotta find ways with the guys you have in that building to do some great things. I love that group, they do some phenomenal things. If we add a guy, we add a guy. If we don't, we don't. So we'll see."

Praise

The Packers' receiving room had up and down moments throughout the 2024 season, but Love trusts his teammates to step up—even if the front office decides not to sign external weapons.

When asked about if the offense could work without an obvious WR1, he was clear.

"I think yes, for what we have, the guys we have in there in that receiver room, yes. It's the same group we had the year before. I mean, it Works," Love explained. "We have a great group. There are definitely areas where we need to focus on and improve on to get better and get over the hump that we hit this year. Just get more consistent, focus on the details. But I love those guys, we got a great group."

Christian Watson is expected to miss two thirds of next season with a torn ACL. Besides him, the Packers also have Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Malik Heath, and probably Bo Melton (if the Packers apply an ERFA tender).

"If we keep growing and building this thing together, we can do some special things," Love added. "No one has reached our full potential yet on our offense. There's a lot of room for growth and a lot of areas where we need to improve on."

Veteran options

At the same time that Love praised his current weapons, the quarterback left the door open for additions, and how it could impact the team moving forward.

"Definitely (would enjoy a veteran presence in the receiving room). I've been saying, when you add good players to a good team, good things will happen," Love mentioned. "We went out and got Josh Jacobs this offseason, phenomenal playmaker for us, elevated our offense to another level. Xavier McKinney on the back end on defense. I love adding pieces and I think when you add those good players, it's only gonna help our offense."

Even though talent is important, Love stressed how much the locker room chemistry must be considered in these scenarios.

"It's gotta be the right guy, the right fit for the group we have," he pointed out. "It's all about the mindset, you wanna a guy that's gonna come in and wanna win, wanna push the envelope and do all the extra things, like Josh Jacobs did for us.
