Jordan Love joins elite company with feat through first 15 career starts

The Green Bay Packers are in the midst of a two-game losing streak that has their chances of making the playoffs hanging by a thread. At 6-8, there are no guarantees that the Packers will return to the postseason after missing it in 2022 when Aaron Rodgers led the Packers to an 8-9 record. They do, however, have a 95% chance of returning to the playoffs if they win their remaining three games.

Of course, the goal of every NFL team is to make the playoffs and, hopefully, win the Super Bowl. But for the 2023 Packers, there was a goal that would determine the future of the franchise. That, as everyone knows, was to determine if Jordan Love, whom they traded up for in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, would be good enough to be their next franchise quarterback.

It has not been an easy season, as their record indicates. Indeed, Love and his young group of pass-catchers have been through the ringer, especially during their four-game losing streak in October. Love, though, never lost his confidence and he and and his young group of skill players have grown together just as the Packers had hoped they would.

As it stands, Love is sitting on a 62.6% completion percentage, 3,368 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Many NFL quarterbacks today do not have numbers that good, and only two have been better in one important aspect in NFL history.

Despite how many may view him, Love has done an excellent job of taking care of the football. He has already had six games in which he has thrown multiple touchdowns with zero interceptions. In four of these games, he has thrown for three touchdowns. Only Brock Purdy has more multiple touchdown games with no interceptions this season.

According to the Packers dope sheet, only Purdy and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino have had more games with multiple touchdowns and zero interceptions through the first 15 starts of their careers. Purdy had eight and Marino had seven.

In addition to that historic feat, the dope sheet also revealed that Love ranks highly in several NFL passing categories this season. He's tied for third in red zone touchdown passes (20), tied for fourth in third down passing touchdowns (nine) and tied for fifth in touchdown passes (25)

In other words, Love is what the Packers hoped he would be: their future. Fans can expect him to sign another contract extension before the 2024 season.
