Jordan Love left with 'very sick taste' in mouth as Packers struggle in post-Aaron Rodgers era

After beginning the season 2-1, the Green Bay Packers have dropped two games in a row, including a narrow 17-13 defeat at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Despite having a bye in Week 6, the most recent loss still lingers for quarterback Jordan Love, who tossed three interceptions in the Monday night outing.

“It’s not a great feeling, definitely left a very sick taste in my mouth that whole week," Love said on Wednesday via Jason Wilde of Madison.com. "Having that sick taste in my mouth, it’s going to keep pushing me forward, keep motivating me to keep going, keep getting better.”

In his first season as an NFL starter, Love came out the gates swinging, committing zero turnovers and tossing three touchdowns in each of the first two weeks. Since then, the four-year pro has fizzled out, throwing six interceptions to just two touchdowns over the last three games.

Over that span, Love failed to eclipse a completion percentage of 63.9 and a completion percentage of 69.9. He currently ranks 29th or worse in both categories across the league. His 55.6 completion percentage is the third lowest among all quarterbacks to attempt at least 14 passes per game and is the lowest mark for a starting Packers signal-caller since Don Majkowski in 1991 (50.9).

Love has a great opportunity to get back on track with a dream Week 7 matchup against the woeful Denver Broncos. Sitting at 1-5 on the year, Denver has allowed the most points (33.3) and third-most passing YPG (268.0) in the NFL.

No one expects Love to be Aaron Rodgers — or anything close for that matter. Green Bay has been spoiled at the quarterback position for three-plus decades, dating back to Brett Favre. With that said, Love must show a drastic improvement if he hopes to keep the Packers out of the quarterback market this offseason.

Green Bay currently projects to have a top-15 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, a class that features blue-chip quarterback prospects Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, as well as Heisman frontrunner Michael Penix Jr.
