After promising wins over the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders, nobody could have predicted a loss to the Cleveland Browns. But the Packers had a disappointing performance on Sunday and found a way to lose the game in the fourth quarter.
Despite the tough outcome of the game, though, quarterback Jordan Love still trusts his team to be competitive throughout the rest of the season. It wasn't the cleanest game, for the offense in particular, but Love believes the roster has what it takes to make a playoff run.
"We know who we are. We're a good team," Love said after the game. "We're still a good team. Like I said, this is a tough loss, but it's one we're just going to have to move on from, grow from, and obviously move on to next week."
While the Packers are in fact still a good team, with a deep roster, the offense showed significant issues against the Browns. Coaching staff and players have to work on that as fast as possible, because in the NFL there's little time for adjustments.
"Very tough. Obviously just wasn't good enough offensively. We weren't able to put a drive together, put up points, had a turnover," Love admitted. "And then obviously, we're going to kick a go-ahead field goal, it gets blocked. So it's tough. They go out and kick the game-winning field goal and it just, that's what I said, it feels a very tough loss. And one of those games that we let them get it in the end. We had it, we just got to find ways to finish."
Love knows the Browns have a tough defense, and that's ultimately why it was so hard to produce offensively on Sunday. But strong teams have to overcome difficult circumstances, and the Packers couldn't get it done.
"They do a lot of really good things, but I think the tough part for us is I feel like we were hurting ourselves more than anything with some of the penalties and just the little things," Love added. "I feel like we were putting some good drives together, but at the end of the day, we just hurt ourselves a little too much. But give them credit, they're a good defense. We've got to find ways to be able to go out there and take advantage of what they're doing."
The challenge for the offense is certainly less imposing next week against the Dallas Cowboys, but taking weeks off is never a good idea, and trap games are always there to remind you of how difficult this league is.
