Jordan Love's late TD pass vs. Giants helps Packers avoid third straight loss

It was not the cleanest of games, but in the end, the Green Bay Packers made some clutch plays late in a 27-20 win over the New York Giants, avoiding a third straight loss in the process.

A pair of missed extra-point attempts from kicker Lucas Havrisik, who was filling in for Brandon McManus (right quad) for the third time this season, kept the game closer than it needed to be late, but the Packers (6-3-1) still found a way to close it out.

Jordan Love, defense come up clutch late

Love has been criticized for not delivering in the biggest moments, but it is hard to dispute his clutch play late in the fourth quarter on Sunday.

This 17-yard strike to wide receiver Christian Watson — his second TD grab of the day — gave Green Bay the lead with 4:02 to play and set the tone for the last four minutes of the game.

Love finished 13-of-24 for 174 yards and two TDs after leaving the game in the first quarter with a left shoulder injury. Despite the adversity, Love rallied the Packers to the win, even with a season-low 54.2 completion percentage.

The other side of Green Bay's narrow win was its impressive defensive effort in the closing moments. At the Packers' 14-yard line, Giants quarterback Jameis Winston was picked off by Green Bay safety Evan Williams, negating a potential game-tying TD with 40 seconds remaining.

After the Giants defense forced a three-and-out and got the ball back with 10 seconds to play, star pass-rusher Micah Parsons sacked Winston, which led to a fumble recovery from defensive tackle Rashan Gary to seal the win.

Those two giveaways on consecutive plays from the Giants were the only turnovers of the game for either team, but they could not have come at a worse time, especially considering Green Bay was a perfect 4-of-4 in the red zone. The Packers also rank 11th in the NFL in red zone TD conversion percentage (63.89%), per TeamRankings, so Sunday's success was certainly an encouraging sign.

Josh Jacobs' injury raises concerns

If there was any concern coming out of Sunday's win, aside from Love's subpar completion percentage once again and the missed extra-point attempts, it has to be Jacobs.

The Packers RB suffered a knee injury in the first half after having seven carries for 40 yards. Jacobs previously dealt with a calf injury earlier this season and has only averaged 3.8 yards per rush all season.

Although Emanuel Wilson scored his first TD of the season in place of Jacobs, he totaled 40 yards on 11 carries, compared to a season-best 5.7 yards per run for Jacobs. To be fair, the Giants have the second-worst run defense in the league (152.1), but Jacobs was on pace for one of his best performances of the season until the injury sidelined him for the remainder of the game.

Jacobs' health is going to be key down the stretch, especially with five of Green Bay's last seven games coming against division opponents. However, after totaling just 20 points the last two weeks in losses to the Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles, the Packers are back in the win column and still have everything in front of them if they can take care of business.
