The Philadelphia Eagles have been incredibly blessed to have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL over the last decade-plus.
Two of the essential pieces to help that offensive line dominate are tackles Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson. The two have been praised all offseason as two of the best. Pro Football Focus had them in the top five for best offensive tackles in the NFL entering 2025, with Mailata at number one and Johnson at five.
Mailata and Johnson have become prime candidates to win a new NFL award starting in 2025, the Protector of the Year. FOX Sports shared the betting odds on who has the best chance to win it. Johnson has the second-highest odds at +750, and Mailata has the fifth-highest odds at +1500.
Mailata has been great during his five-year NFL career at left tackle, but is finally getting the love he deserves. He's coming off his first All-Pro selection and had the best overall 2024 PFF grade among 140 offensive tackles with 95.8.
Johnson's career is historic and will be an easy choice for a first-ballot Hall of Famer with six Pro Bowls and five All-Pro selections to his resume. His PFF overall grade was seventh in 2024, with a score of 85.4.
At age 28, Mailata still has plenty of years to go before retirement, but Johnson is 35 and could be getting close to retirement. Johnson did state that he doesn't feel he has hit his peak yet in his career, so that could mean more to come from the right tackle.
Mailata and Johnson have been the best offensive tackle duo in the NFL over the last five years and there are no signs of that slowing down anytime soon.
