Josh Allen Backup QB Competition Predicted To Heat Up At Bills Training Camp
Gregory Fisher - USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills have one of the best teams in football, and an MVP-caliber quarterback to lead the way.

But while Josh Allen remains one of the best signal-callers in the game, Buffalo isn't quite sure who they want to back him up for the 2025 season. After one offseason signing, it's pretty clear why.

Mitchell Trubisky has been a quality backup quarterback for Buffalo before. The former Pro Bowl signal-caller has completed over 73 percent of his passes when in uniform with the Bills. While he can be seen as the leading candidate for Buffalo's backup role, that may not be the case this season.

The Bills signed Mike White to a free agent contract to add some competition for Trubisky this training camp. White has been a spot starter at times for both the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins over the last few years. His 8:12 touchdown-to-interception ratio isn't very good, but it doesn't tell the whole story, either.

In a sound offensive system, White can be a very dependable backup quarterback.

That's what makes his signing in Buffalo so interesting.

A backup quarterback position battle heating up at training camp? That's the way we see it.

How important is it? Envision - God forbid - a Josh Allen injury ... and Bills Mafia would have to find out.

At first glance, it seems like the backup quarterback position battle will be Trubisky's to lose. Nothing is set in stone ahead of training camp, though. ... and competition will make all involved better.
