The Buffalo Bills' preseason outing against the New York Giants didn't move the backup quarterback needle for head coach Sean McDermott as he watched his team work this weekend at Highmark Stadium.
Buffalo, after mounting a comeback, would lose 34-25 with Mitch Trubisky and Mike White doing their best to show they deserve to be Josh Allen's backup in 2025.
Starting the first half, Trubisky was efficient, going nine for 13 with 138 yards and a touchdown, and as for White, he was equally as good, completing eight of his 13 passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns.
So yeah, this quarterback battle is far from over.
“I think both of those guys did some good things,” McDermott said. “Both of those guys moved the team down the field at times, and I'm sure both have some plays that they want back. Just overall, we'll continue to look at it. They'll continue to battle as we go get back into practice this week.”
Given that Trubisky got the start against the Giants, it is a fair assumption to think that if practice goes well this week, it might be White's turn to start against the Chicago Bears in the second preseason game.
It does feel like this battle will go down to the wire with both Trubisky and White putting good things on film for the coaching staff to evaluate over the coming days, and who will take the lead is anyone's guess.
But after one preseason game, it is as you were in this battle to see who will back up Allen.
