Josh Allen Has Blunt Message For Everyone About 'Tush Push'

Josh Allen could receive more opportunities to run the "Tush Push" in 2025.

A league vote to ban the polarizing quarterback sneak failed to pass last month. After the Philadelphia Eagles, nobody has run the play more often than Allen's Buffalo Bills. Yet head coach Sean McDermott has expressed concerns about the scrum's safety.

Allen discussed his stance on the Tush Push during an interview with Sports Illustrated's Liam McKeone.

"I'm a big believer in if you can't stop it, keep running it, right? I think that there's a few teams that do it better than others, but then you look at a few teams that try to do it, and it doesn't have the same success," Allen said. "Because, one, they maybe don't practice it enough or, two, they don't have the guys to do it."

Allen wasn't on board with prohibiting the play simply to stop an effective tool.

"Just because a couple teams do it better than others, I don't feel like it should be banned," he said. "I understand the merit of what it brings and so I don't really sway one way or the other. I try to play the game based on the interpretation of the rules. And if that was the rule that was passed, you know, we'll find a different way. But I feel like if you can use it to your benefit, use it to your benefit. If you don't like it, my advice is to stop it."

Allen knows better than most that the "Tush Push" isn't foolproof. The Kansas City Chiefs took his advice and stopped multiple sneaks during the AFC Championship Game, including a costly unsuccessful fourth-down attempt.

The NFL fell two votes shy of the 24 votes needed to pass a rule that would have banned teammates from pushing a ball-carrier forward. The Green Bay Packers initially proposed the change, which was modified after owners tabled the original vote in April.

Allen may get more chances to perfect the Tush Push, but the heated debate isn't appearing to subside anytime soon.
