Some things in life remain a constant, like how fans can look forward to NFL games once September rolls around.

Another constant?

Josh Gordon getting reinstated by the NFL.

The 30-year-old wide receiver was last with the Seattle Seahawks in 2020, only to get reinstated and then immediately be suspended once again.

He has not played in a game since 2019.

But that time of year is here again as Gordon is reportedly back.

Let the speculation begin about where he will play this time around.

A Familiar Process

NFL fans have seen this same story play out many times.

Gordon made his debut with the Cleveland Browns in 2012, and that was the only time he ever appeared in a full season of games.

He put up monster numbers, 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns, in 2013 in only 14 games.

Then the real problems started.

Gordon missed all of 2015 and 2016 and added 2020 to that list last year.

The one positive here is that the NFL is not banishing him from the league because of his personal issues, whether they be substance-related or something else.

He is receiving suspensions, but is still getting countless chances to get better and make a return.

Not many industries would offer such an opportunity, but his talent level certainly helps him as well.

Another Chance To Succeed

Gordon does not appear to be a bad person and that explains why, in addition to his talent, he continues to receive opportunity after opportunity.

There is no doubt that the talent to be elite is there.

His goal is to stay in a good place when he is away from the field.

The problem with Gordon is that he is not reliable, so it is tough to project what he can do at this point in his career.

He had 720 yards in 11 games with the New England Patriots in 2018, which marked his best campaign since 2013.

But he is now 30 years old and his track record proves he can not be brought in as a top option on offense.

Yet if a team wants to bring him in as a third or fourth receiver?

That is fine, as long as there are legitimate options in front of him.

Otherwise, what appears to be a potent offense could be derailed if he is suspended again.

Gordon being reinstated is always the first step.

Now comes teams offering him a shot at redemption.

While he has not proven to be reliable, his talent alone should have contenders focused on him right away.
