The Green Bay Packers came close to a collapse in their Week 11 matchup against the struggling New York Giants. The game remained tight until a late fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Jordan Love to Christian Watson sealed a 27-20 victory for Green Bay.

Josh Jacobs’ injury raises concerns in Packers’ 27-20 win over the Giants 4 Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs (8) stiff-arms Houston Texans safety Eric Murray (23) during the third quarter of their game Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Before that game-winning connection, the Giants seemed poised to pull off the upset, even with interim head coach Mike Kafka making his debut on the sidelines and backup quarterback Jameis Winston leading the offense. To make matters worse for Green Bay, running back Josh Jacobs left the game with a significant injury, adding to the team’s challenges in a contest they desperately needed to win.

Josh Jacobs and the Packers before his injury against the Giants

Jacobs seemed to have hurt his knee, potentially sidelining him for an extended period, but there was cautious optimism in the Packers’ locker room that the injury might not be severe enough to keep him out long term. He will undergo additional tests on his knee once the team returns to Green Bay, with the expectation that he could be back on the field relatively quickly.

The exact moment Jacobs injured his knee is uncertain, as he played every snap during the Packers’ first two drives. However, when Green Bay’s offense returned to the field for a third drive, Jacobs was absent.

Before being sidelined, Jacobs gained 40 yards on seven carries, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt in Week 11. Over 10 games this season, he has handled the bulk of Green Bay’s workload with 169 carries, more than three times the amount of backup Emanuel Wilson, who has 53. Jacobs leads the team with 648 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Against the Giants, he notched a long run of 15 yards before exiting the game with his injury.

After Jacobs left the game in Week 11, Emanuel Wilson assumed the primary rushing role. He matched Jacobs’ total by gaining 40 yards on 11 carries, averaging 3.6 yards per attempt in the Packers’ Nov. 16 win. Brooks also recorded a single carry for eight yards against the Giants.

Should Jacobs miss more time, Wilson is likely to assume the Packers’ top running back duties.
