Tua Tagovailoa thwarted the cold weather demons on Thursday night in Green Bay, Wisconsin...but the rest of his team didn't.
The Miami Dolphins quarterback entered the Thanksgiving showdown against the Packers with an abysmal record in cold weather. Heading into the game he was 1-7 in games under 50 degrees, 0-4 in game under 40 degrees and 0-2 in games under 30 degrees.
While the Packers won the game by a final score of 30-17, Tua did his best, throwing for 365 yards and two touchdowns while completing 37-of-46 passes. Kickoff temperature sat at 27 degrees with a wind chill under 20 for the duration of the game, which Tua didn't want to use an an excuse for his team.
"I would say, from my standpoint and our team’s standpoint, we’re not going to use any of that as an excuse for why we didn’t get the start that we wanted," he said after the game.
Linebacker Jordyn Brooks took things a step further.
"I thought we were soft," Brooks said after the game. "Simple as that, I thought we were soft today. I don't know if guys was too cold... I don't know what it was. I feel like the elements played a part in how we played as a group, and that was the result that we got."
Star running back Josh Jacobs, who finished the night with 117 total yards and a touchdown, admitted he thought the weather impacted the game. "Them boys looked cold out there," he told reporters about the Dolphins.

According to ESPN, Miami has now lost 12-straight regular season or postseason games in which the kickoff temperature has been below 40 degrees. The most recent win came back on Christmas Eve in 2016 in a 34-31 overtime win over the Buffalo Bills.
