Josh McCown cries after Eagles lose to Seahawks
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles were forced to turn to quarterback Josh McCown after Carson Wentz suffered a concussion in the first half of Sunday’s playoff game, and while McCown gave it everything he had, he and his team came up just short.

McCown’s Eagles lost 17-9 to the Seahawks, with the quarterback failing to convert a 4th and 7 at the Seattle 11-yard line with two minutes left. After the game, cameras captured him becoming emotional on the field and on his way to the locker room, with tight end Zach Ertz consoling him.

NFL Media’s Jim Trotter said McCown squatted and began to cry on his way to the locker room as well.

McCown is a 40-year-old who actually came out of retirement to back Wentz up, and had never appeared in a playoff game before. He gave it his all, managing to go 18-of-24 for 174 yards, and came within a touchdown and a two-point conversion of forcing overtime. He will probably never have a chance like this again, and it’s easy to understand why he was overcome by emotion after the loss.
