The Tennessee Titansare in full preseason mode, as they continue to progress through fall camp and are inching closer to their first preseason game. That is when they will play the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium on Thursday night to begin their three-game preseason slate.
The Titans first camp under the leadership of Robert Saleh has been a bit tricky and filled with ups and downs, as the Titans continue to hold hope that they can get back to their playoff ways after an underwhelming stretch of professional football. Some of the biggest news surrounding camp has been the most unfortunate news, as one of the biggest headlines from Sunday is that Joshua Williams is back in the yellow caution jersey.
The yellow jersey is worn to avoid contact for those who are returning to the field on a rehab basis. This is used to identify the players from the others, giving the coaches a bright color that they can view and spot the difference from the other players on the roster.
The reason the team is using the yellow jersey for the cornerback rather than the red jersey that the quarterbacks are using is not only to spot the difference between the positions, but also because there are different stages that each player is in. The red is simply no contact and has nothing to do with an injury, while the yellow is based around an injury in most cases.
Williams is recovering from a pectoral injury and was back in the yellow jersey on Sunday, leaving me with little hope that he will actually be clear for the game against the 49ers. This is upsetting, as he was arguably the player I was most excited to watch. This is especially the case after he finished last season as one of the better cornerbacks on the Chiefs' roster despite being a rotational player. In his limited reps, he made the most of his opportunities.
When he is back at 100%, he will be a player who competes for a starting gig, but will at a minimum be a cornerback who sees the field plenty in Nashville.
