Joy Taylor hammers Aaron Rodgers as Steelers OTA’s begin, QB remains unsigned

As the calendar gets close to June, people in Pittsburgh are still on Aaron Rodgers watch. The Steelers currently do not have a high-level quarterback on the roster, at least one the outside would consider ready to win them games. Rodgers would be that guy but to this point, no deal has come together.

Mandatory OTAs are underway across the league and the Steelers are no different. This led to FOX’s Joy Taylor ripping Rodgers for not being in Pittsburgh, despite not being signed. She argued this is different than skipping out on a team with a ton of familiarity. In fact, Rodgers has not stepped one foot into a Steelers facility.

“Mandatory or not, where’s your pride?” Taylor asked. “Where’s your dignity? Where’s your respect for the game? Where’s your respect for this organization? What are we talking about? He’s never played there before. He doesn’t know any of his teammates.

“He doesn’t know any of the streets to get to the facility. He doesn’t know the doctors, he doesn’t know the rehab crew. He doesn’t know anybody. He doesn’t know where to get his smoothies. Nothing. Like, why would you not be there?”

Tuesday was the first of six mandatory OTAs for the Steelers, lasting through June 5. A few day break will take place before another set of mandatory dates pop up, being considered minicamps. Three mandatory minicamps fall on June 10-13.

Maybe June 14 is the magic date for Rodgers and the Steelers, wanting to skip practices he does not want to participate in. If so, Taylor does not agree with the idea as the saga between the two continues.

Kirk Cousins reportedly an option if Aaron Rodgers does not work out in Pittsburgh

As Aaron Rodgers Watch continues, the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to wait for an official answer at quarterback. However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported one intriguing backup plan could be in the works if the talks fall through.

Fowler mentioned Kirk Cousins as a potential option for Pittsburgh if the franchise is unable to land Rodgers. The Atlanta Falcons quarterback came up in trade rumors earlier this offseason, but the amount left on his contract made a move tough for interested teams.

“I would say Kirk Cousins,” Fowler said on SportsCenter Monday when asked about non-Rodgers options for the Steelers. “I had some conversations with people this week that led me to believe that Cousins is, at the very least, on the Steelers’ radar if something were to fall through on Rodgers.

“Now, here’s how they could make that happen. Cousins has $37.5 million in guarantees between this year and next year. Somebody’s on the hook for that, whether it’s Atlanta or someone else. So to facilitate a trade, Atlanta would need a team to offset some of that money – whether it’s $4 million, $20 million, whatever it is.”
