Juju Brents is a Breakout Candidate in 2026

With Miami having one of the youngest rosters in the NFL and a first-time head coach in charge, Jeff Hafley, not much is expected of the Dolphins in the 2026 season.

In light of that, much of this season will depend on the development of the players on the roster as the team looks for building blocks of the future.

One of those younger players currently on the roster with tons of potential is cornerback Julius Brents (JuJu Brents).

Brents, 26 years old, is a former second-round pick of the Colts out of Kansas State in 2023.

At 6’3, 198 pounds, and with 34-inch arms, you could see why scouts were eager to draft Brents.

It was not just the size-and-speed combo that attracted teams to Brents out of college, either.

The former Wildcat recorded 45 tackles, 3.5 for loss, eight passes defensed, and had four interceptions in his final season at Kansas State.

Unfortunately, once he reached the NFL with the Colts, Brents was hit by the injury bug.

After starting eight games and recording 43 tackles and an interception in his first season in Indianapolis, Brents only played two games in his second year because of an injury.

Brents then sustained an injury in training camp in 2025, before getting waived and eventually getting picked up by former Dolphins General Manager, Chris Grier, who was looking for bodies at the position after the trade of Jalen Ramsey and the subsequent season-ending injuries to Kader Kohou and Artie Burns.

After getting acclimated to the defense, Brents played in seven games and started two for the Dolphins, which included an outstanding performance in Miami’s 30-13 win over Buffalo where he had five tackles and one pass break-up.

Brents then played well again the next week in a win against Washington with five tackles before suffering another season-ending injury.

Jeff Hafley likes big corners, and at 6’3, 198 pounds, Brents is certainly that.

If he can stay healthy, there is no reason that Brents can’t quickly become the top corner for the Dolphins’ defense.
