In the storied history of the NFL, none has made it as big as Tom Brady. In his long career, Brady won seven Super Bowls, six of them with the New England Patriots, where he played for most of his career. And the Patriots are planning to honor him. After all, it’s not always a sixth-round pick who gets a calculated call-up and becomes one of the legends of the game.

Appearing on Dudes on Dudes podcast, hosted by Brady’s old teammates, Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, the Pats owner, Robert Kraft, unveiled their plans for the upcoming season. The Pats, who have fallen behind after Brady’s departure, have spent a truckload of money in the offseason to build their squad around their second-year QB, Drake Maye.

There has been a rumor of a statue being put up in front of the stadium in honor of Brady for some time now. Former Patriots wide receiver Edelman offered a unique suggestion to the owner. Edelman proposed that his co-host and former teammate, Gronkowski, should be the sculptor behind Brady’s statue.

We keep hearing about this Tom Brady statue. I think we should just hire Gronk to be the sculptor of that statue and have him do the statue. I think that would be unbelievable. Everyone would remember that!

There’s no questioning how iconic it would be. But alas, much to Edelman’s woes, Kraft announced that the statue is already completed and ready to be put up. He further stated that they had planned for the statue in honor of Brady a year ago.

However, as Tom Brady forayed into broadcasting, they were not able to get it up last year. The statue is reportedly 12 feet high, a tribute to his iconic jersey number, and will be prominently placed in the plaza outside the Patriots Hall of Fame.

In the podcast, Kraft also gave a tentative date for the grand unveil, August 8. The Patriots start their pre-season on 8th with a game against the last year’s NFC conference runners-up Washington Commanders.

No statues but Julian Edelman enshrined in Patriots history with a franchise HOF

Julian Edelman might not have a statue modeled after him on the plaza next to the Patriots Hall of Famer, but, soon enough, the wide receiver will be enshrined in the Patriots Hall of Fame alongside the famed quarterback.

The wide receiver, drafted by the New England Patriots in 2009 as a seventh-round pick, spent his entire career in Massachusetts. In the 12-season-long stay, he won three Super Bowls and remained a solid and important part of the Patriots’ victories. He recorded 6,822 receiving yards from 620 receptions and 36 receiving touchdowns. He also famously won the Super Bowl MVP tag in 2019 after he caught 10 passes on 12 targets for 141 yards during the 13–3 victory against the LA Rams.

The Super Bowl and the postseason performance in that season were among the leading arguments in the induction of Edelman into the Patriots Hall of Fame. He was, after all, the first WR since Santonio Holmes to be the Super Bowl MVP.

Julian Edelman will become the 37th inductee in the Patriots HOF. The Patriots HOF was established in 1991, with John Hannah being inducted as the inaugural member. In addition to Edelman, former coach Bill Parcells will also be enshrined as a contributor. In 2024, Tom Brady was voted into the same.

The former wideout and podcaster was wished by the quarterback himself. After the announcement, Brady took it to Instagram and reshared the Patriots’ post with a caption that read, “Congratulations bubs.”
