Just two days of Eagles training camp and one position battle is already over

Honestly, this could have been written after day one of Philadelphia Eagles training camp and it would still hold true: the right guard position battle is over.

The observation has been made over two days of practices, Tyler Steen has been taking the first-team reps and it hasn't changed. It was more of the same during offseason workouts as he was also taking first team reps during those.

Steen has been getting praised by his teammates throughout the offseason and in training camp. After the Eagles' second practice, starting left guard Landon Dickerson responded to the question on how he felt Steen was doing at right guard.

"I think Steen is doing a tremendous job. As he's gotten more comfortable. He's had a couple of years some starts in him, some games, I think he's gotten more comfortable now in that position and obviously the more you practice, the more you feel comfortable, the better you get."

Steen pretty much has the right guard job locked up

It would take something catastrophic for Steen to lose his job at this point. He has taken all the first-team reps at right guard with no one else seemingly even being considered for it despite it consistently being called a "position battle."

Entering his third NFL season, Steen has started three of his 28 games, with two of those starts coming last year. He has demonstrated his versatility to play tackle and guard on the line.

The former third-round pick's major advantage has been working with Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland over the last two years and having experience within the system. Steen has continued to show improvement over the years and has been a team player, being asked to play any position that is asked of him.

Other guys like Matt Pryor, Trevor Keegan, and Kenyon Green have also been considered to potentially earn the right guard spot. The Eagles keep coming back to Steen, though.

Fans will continue to want to monitor the right guard position throughout training camp, but it is safe to assume Steen will be taken over for the position Mekhi Becton held in 2024.
