New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields suffered a potentially serious injury during training camp on Thursday.

Fields was carted off the practice field with a leg injury, according to multiple reports.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini says Fields came up lame after rolling out to his right and throwing an incomplete pass. The quarterback remained on the ground briefly before being helped off by a trainer and then carted to the locker room.

Fields signed a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets this offseason. He is expected to be the team’s Week 1 starting quarterback.

Fields has already drawn high praise from some of his veteran teammates this offseason.

The 26-year-old Fields began his career with the Chicago Bears, who drafted him with the 11th overall pick in 2021. He struggled for three seasons in Chicago before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers last offseason.

Fields started the first six games of the season with the Steelers as Russell Wilson recovered from an injury. Pittsburgh went 4-2 in those games.

Tyrod Taylor is the Jets’ No. 2 quarterback at the moment. He stepped in to run the first-team offense after Fields was carted off on Thursday.
