Justin Fields has forced Steelers HC Mike Tomlin into the hypothetical situation he's been loathing
USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Justin Fields are now 3-0 following a 20-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon.

The third straight week of Justin Fields starting over injured captain Russell Wilson, the team faced their toughest task yet in a battle of unbeaten teams.

They, but perhaps more importantly Justin Fields passed with flying colors, as Fields all but ended any QB discussion going forward, even if Coach Tomlin doesn't want to talk about it:

Fields powers the offense to 20 points, win over Chargers

Justin Fields stepped up to the call on Sunday, with his team and more specifically the offense struggling mightily to generate any ground game in the first three quarters. At halftime, Fields had eight yards of rushing and the team's lone TD, with Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren combining for six total yards rushing.

So the game was going to be won by Fields' arm, and he did just that. Going 25/32 for 245 yards and a TD with only one blemish via a tipped ball interception. The poise, anticipation, ball location, and overall QB play were at an elite level for Fields.

In terms of the QB battle, as much as Coach Tomlin would have liked to see Wilson be the starter, turning away from the signal caller that has Pittsburgh sitting atop the division at 3-0, coming off arguably the game of his career and doing so while putting the team on his back would cause nothing short of a mutiny.

And the injury situation can still be the disguise if need be, as recent remarks from Coach Tomlin last week didn't exactly exude confidence that a Wilson return was imminent either way:

“As I sit here today [Russ] is not scheduled to participate fully in practices so we’re readying ourselves around Justin and We’ll stay in that mindset until something else happens…

“…Hypotheticals are a waste of time," said Tomlin when asked if Fields was the new starter.

But if Wilson is deemed healthy, then we have officially reached the hypothetical situation that Mike Tomlin has been so unwilling to discuss...

Who is QB #1 if both are healthy?

The answer seems simple enough.
