Justin Fields Named ‘Preferred Target’ By Las Vegas Raiders In 1 Mind-Numbing Trade Scenario
Mark Hoffman / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

Now that the Super Bowl is over, teams are gearing up for what should be a wild offseason. The Las Vegas Raiders, for one, could be making some big moves and additions as they look to address the issues that greatly slowed them down in the 2023 campaign,  among which is a quarterback quandary.

The Las Vegas Raiders still have Jimmy Garoppolo, but it’s hard to tell what exactly his future will look like with the team. They also have Aidan O’Connell, but he’s not exactly a promising option under center for the Raiders. If the Raiders truly need to move the needle in the QB room, they may have to pursue Chicago Bears dual-threat signal-caller Justin Fields. For Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report, Fields should be among the chief targets of the Raiders in the offseason.

This is the point where Justin Fields shouldn’t just be considered an option; he should be the preferred target. The Las Vegas Raiders find themselves in a bind. The organization desperately needs an upgrade at quarterback. Yet the relatively strong finish to the 2023 campaign pushed the Raiders’ first-round pick to 13th.

With the trio of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels expected off the board quickly, the Raiders then have Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy as the next-best option, though the likes of the Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos sit ahead of them in the draft order. Something big is necessary for the Raiders to pull off a move that ends with a top prospect. Less will be required to take a run at Fields.

Will The Las Vegas Raiders Make A Run For Justin Fields?

Fields is entering the last year of the contract he signed with the Bears back in 2021 when they selected him first overall in the NFL Draft. He will have one more year to prove to the Bears that he is a long-term answer under center, but that’s unless Chicago takes a quarterback with their No. 1 overall pick (via the Carolina Panthers) in April’s draft and decides to hand that player the keys to the QB1 role. That’s long been a rumored scenario for the Bears that could be leverage for other teams like the Las Vegas Raiders to dangle some assets in exchange for Fields.

Through 40 games in the pros, Fields has passed for 6,674 yards and 40 touchdowns with 30 interceptions on a 60.3 percent completion rate, while putting together a 10-28-0 QB record.
