In a cross-sport reference, Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert rivals NBA Hall of Famer Tim Duncan for being the most boring superstar of all time, and that’s not a discredit to either man.
When Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs were dominating during the 2000’s, he simply showed up to work every day, was one of the greatest players to ever touch a basketball, and went home.
Herbert has a long way to go before being considered one of the greatest quarterbacks ever, but he certainly is the Tim Duncan of the NFL.
They may not be the flashiest, but Herbert’s fellow elite quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen are always in the news or making media appearances.
The former Oregon star, however, enjoys hanging in the shadows.
This is why it shocked NFL fans when the former Pro Bowler made a high-profile appearance in an ad campaign.
Nike released some images of Herbert last week and it sent the internet into a frenzy
There isn’t anything particularly interesting about the pictures, it’s just the fact that the former Offensive Rookie of the Year stepped out of his comfort zone and showed his face in the media.
The pictures garnered millions of views and tens of thousands of likes in a spectacle that shined a rare light on the Chargers.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh has been hyping Herbert up since he was hired nearly a year-and-a-half-ago, so perhaps this media stunt stems from some newfound confidence.
Or perhaps, the star quarterback just made a rare media appearance and will vanish back into the dark.
