Kadarius Toney is disputing the rampant rumors that he's stepping away from the NFL to pursue a rap career.
Rumors started circulating on Thursday that Toney had gone on social media and told his followers he was retiring to become a rapper. However, Toney disputed the claim in a later post on his Instagram story.
"Goofies on the net hollerin I'm retiring," Toney said. "Just want klout. Ain't speakin on the [expletive] nomo."
Toney added, "Love da attention for my musik tho. It's been a passion."
The initial news that Toney was stepping away from football was believable. Since being selected 20th overall in the 2021 draft by the New York Giants, his NFL career has been plagued by setbacks and inconsistency.
Toney was seen as a high-upside prospect with quickness and ball skills that could be an immediate contributor. But he never found his footing at the NFL level. He's caught 82 passes for 760 yards in his career with three touchdowns.
He appeared in 12 games for the Giants before being traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. While his overall impact in Kansas City was limited, he played a key role in their Super Bowl victory, recording a pivotal punt return and hauling in a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
Toney spent part of last season with the Cleveland Browns. He appeared in three games but was released after muffing a punt and receiving a taunting penalty. He is currently a free agent.
