Kadarius Toney's 'personal' reason for injury designation revealed

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney will not play in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday due in part to a personal reason, and we now know what led to that designation.

Toney has not played in Kansas City’s last five games due to a hip injury. The Chiefs have ruled him out for Sunday’s game because of the hip issue but also added “personal” to the injury report.

According to James Palmer of NFL Network, Toney welcomed his first child on Saturday night. The hip injury appears to be the reason the receiver is not playing against Baltimore, however.

The last time Toney played was in Week 15 when the Chiefs beat the New England Patriots, 27-17, on Dec. 17. He had a brutal dropped pass in that game that led to an interception (video here). The week before, Toney committed a crucial blunder that cost Kansas City a win against the Buffalo Bills.

We probably will never know if Toney’s struggles played a role in him missing several games, but there is a good chance he is not going to see the field at all in the postseason.
