The NFL has officially announced each team's full offseason workout schedule, starting on Day 1 and ending with the team's mandatory minicamp.
The Chiefs and most other teams with returning head coaches kick off the voluntary portion of their offseason workout program on Monday, April 21. Teams with new head coaches can start a bit earlier.
Here's a quick look at the Chiefs' schedule for 2025:
The Chiefs' rookie minicamp hasn't yet been officially announced to the public. They'll have two weekends to choose from: May 2-5 OR May 9-12. They typically choose the latter of the two possible dates, and given the timing of OTAs, it'd make sense for them to take place from May 9-12.
The voluntary offseason workout program begins April 21 with two weeks of Phase I workouts. This portion isn't the most intensive with football activities. Players can attend meetings, partake in strength and conditioning training at team facilities, and participate in physical rehabilitation only.
The Chiefs have recently encouraged their players to train independently during Phase I. This is usually when Patrick Mahomes hosts throwing sessions with teammates in Texas. The team also holds virtual meetings during this time.
On Monday, May 5, the team will advance to Phase II of the offseason workout program, which includes on-field workouts with individual or group instruction and drills. The team can still not do live contact work or participate in 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 team drills.
We’ll enter Phase III of the offseason workout program at the end of May and early June with 10 total voluntary Organized Team Activities (OTAs) practice sessions. These include on-field workouts with individual and group components, including walkthroughs. No live contact is permitted in these workouts.
Rookie minicamp is the first part of the offseason workout program that isn't considered voluntary. However, only rookies, select first-year players, and select injured players are permitted to attend. It's an introduction to the NFL for incoming players.
Every player on the 90-man offseason roster must attend the team's mandatory minicamp session in mid-June. Those who don't attend (typically, contract-related holdouts) will face mandatory fines from the NFL.
