Kansas City Chiefs’ Carson Wentz Contract Details Revealed
Sergio Estrada-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are making a significant investment in Carson Wentz as Patrick Mahomes‘ backup, ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

Wentz, who signed with the Chiefs during the first week of April, will collect a base salary of $3.325 million for the 2024 season, including $2.2 million fully guaranteed, and up to a $1.1 million per-game active roster bonuses, according to a report from Tom Pelissero of The NFL Network.

Arriving in Kansas City, after spending the final month of the 2023 season as Matthew Stafford’s backup, and eventually replacing him due to injury for two games, Wentz has the chance to potentially win a second Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs.

“Why I’m here today is just the winning culture and seeing it from afar, seeing it around the league for the last couple of years [and admiring] it for years,” Wentz told reporters during his introductory press conference in Kansas City. “That was a big piece of the puzzle for me. The desire to be here on a winning team, in a good culture, in a good community with a good fan base seemed like a good fit.”

Carson Wentz Hopes for Kansas City Chiefs Renaissance

Wentz has never been able to recapture what propelled him into the MVP conversation in 2017, his second NFL season, that came to a close after tearing his ACL in December of the Eagles’ run to the Super Bowl that season.

However, freed from the pressure of carrying the weight of a franchise as the starting quarterback, Wentz hopes that playing behind Mahomes and for the Chiefs offers him a chance to turn his career around.

“Lots of unknowns about the future; I’ll take it one day at a time, first and foremost,” the 31-year-old Wentz told reporters. “Big intrigue to want to come here. Why I’m here today is just the winning culture. Seeing it from afar and seeing it from around the league the last couple of years, just the culture Coach (Andy) Reid has kind of set. You see it, and I’ve admired it for years. That was a big piece of the puzzle for me and the desire to be here on a winning team, in a good culture, in a good community with a good fanbase, it just seemed like a good fit.”
