The NFL's Top 100 Players list is an annual offseason tradition, and after being snubbed from it last year, Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie came in at No. 81 on 2025's list.
From NFL.com: "Part of the reason the Chiefs were comfortable saving money and moving on from L'Jarius Sneed last offseason was McDuffie's ascendence. Though he went from a 2023 first-team All-Pro to a second-teamer last season, he continued to deliver tremendous defensive balance. McDuffie is an able and willing tackler, as well as a physical eliminator of opponents’ top pass catchers. Ranked third among corners in 2024 with an 83.1 PFF defensive grade, it’s hard to believe his first career pick didn’t come until his 41st regular-season game. McDuffie lined up fewer than 3 yards from an opposing receiver on a league-leading 63.5% of snaps this past season, the second-highest single-season press rate by any player with at least 250 outside snaps in the past seven seasons (2023 A.J. Terrell, 67.7%)."
McDuffie has joined center Creed Humphrey as the only two Chiefs players to have made the list so far. McDuffie's 2023 season was arguably better, but he was still excellent in 2024 — recording 59 total tackles, two interceptions, 13 passes defensed, and one forced fumble.
After playing mostly in the slot throughout his first two years, McDuffie played the bulk of his snaps out on the boundary in 2024. With the additions of cornerbacks Kristian Fulton and Nohl Williams, Kansas City can use McDuffie as the ultimate Swiss Army knife in 2025, constantly moving him back and forth between the inside and outside.
The Chiefs picked up McDuffie's fifth-year option during the offseason, keeping him under contract through the 2026 season. They can extend him to a long-term contract at any point during that time. It would be wise for K.C. to do that, as McDuffie has been one of the best CBs in the NFL since entering the league.
