Kansas City Chiefs could do something during the 2025 NFL Draft that they haven't done in nearly a decade

The Kansas City Chiefs invited 53 area prospects to  participate in their annual local pro day on Monday.

Among them were three quarterbacks -- Florida's Graham Mertz, Central Missouri's Zach Zebrowski, and Missouri's Brady Cook. The Chiefs have not spent a draft pick on a QB since 2017 when they selected Patrick Mahomes,

Could Kansas City buck that trend this year? The name above that probably stands out the most to Chiefs fans is Cook, who was Mizzou's starting QB each of the last three years. Cook threw for 9,008 yards, 50 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in 47 games played with the Tigers. Our A to Z Sports Mock Draft Database expects him to be drafted in the No. 66-145 range.

Then there's Mertz, who attended high school at Bishop Miege and Blue Valley North in the K.C. Metro Area. He went on to play his college ball at Wisconsin and Florida, starting 48 games between the two. Mertz racked up 9,099 passing yards, 64 TDs, and 31 INTs over six years with the Badgers and Gators. He unfortunately tore his ACL in October, bringing his collegiate career to a sudden halt.

Finally, there's Zebrowski, who is considered the top NCAA Division II prospect in the country. Zebrowski is a two-time Harlon Hill winner, which is awarded to the Division II Football Player of the Year. He originally began his collegiate with Southern Illinois before transferring to Central Missouri in 2023. He exploded onto the scene with the Mules, throwing for 5,157 yards and a whopping 61 TDs that year.

Zebrowski couldn't match those gaudy numbers in 2024, but still had a very good year with 4,724 passing yards and 40 TDs. He was the only QB who threw at the Chiefs' local pro day, as his fellow UCM teammates wide receiver Zach Patterson and offensive lineman Gabe Clark were also in attendance. Zebrowski could be a late-round pick or go undrafted.

If the Chiefs were to pick one of those three QBs, Zebrowski makes the most sense. They definitely aren't going to spend a mid-round pick on Cook, and Mertz has a lot of question marks surrounding his knee injury. K.C. has three picks in the seventh round, including the very last selection in the draft, and could take a flyer on Zebrowski with one. Zebrowski could push Bailey Zappe and Chris Oladokun as the No. 3 QB behind Mahomes and Gardner Minshew on the Chiefs' depth chart.
