Kansas City Chiefs Defender Given Big Honor On 2024 ‘All-Underrated’ Team
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to chase a three-peat during the upcoming 2024 NFL season, every other team around the NFL has placed a target on their back. However, the Chiefs have to be feeling good after the offseason they were able to put together.

Patrick Mahomes was the biggest winner of the offseason this year. After struggling through a rough season with his wide receivers in 2023, the Chiefs went out and brought in both Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and Xavier Worthy. Rashee Rice also just got some good off-the-field news with no charges being fired on one of his major mistakes.

Looking ahead to the 2024 season, the Chiefs are in great shape to compete for the elusive third straight championship.

All of that being said, the Kansas City Chiefs have now seen one of their defenders be named to the “All-Underrated Team.”

Kansas City Chiefs Defender Given Big Honor On 2024 “All-Underrated” Team

According to Bleacher Report, linebacker Leo Chenal is one of the most underrated players heading into the 2024 NFL season.

“Some concern arises with his utilization, because Chenal was primarily viewed as a downhill option entering the league. Even so, the 250-pound defender is an awesome athlete. As Pro Football Network’s Kent Lee Platte noted, Chenal’s relative athletic score ranked third among all linebackers over the last 37 years. While a bigger and more physical ‘backer, the third-year pro is adept in zone coverage. He’s just not as fluid covering quicker options in space. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo can offset that by continuing to use Chenal in a hybrid role where he rushers the passer in certain packages.”

Chenal is very deserving of that recognition. He has been great in his first two NFL seasons and is primed for an even bigger role and even bigger numbers in 2024.

During the 2023 season with the Kansas City Chiefs, Chenal ended up compiling 65 total tackles to go along with three sacks and a defended pass.

At just 23 years of age, Chenal has huge potential for the future as well. For those who like to say that the Chiefs don’t have a great defense, these are the players who are not talked about. These are the players who have powered them to two straight Super Bowls.

It will be interesting to see what the 2024 season has in store for the Kansas City Chiefs and Chenal. He is receiving some preseason hype and rightfully so. Fans can expect a big breakout season from Chenal this year.
