The Kansas City Chiefs have a familiar face in St. Joseph, Missouri, as the final week of training camp kicks off on Monday.
As first reported by Chiefs team reporter Matt McMullen, the Chiefs signed former Pittsburgh and Kansas State DE Nate Matlack ahead of their 15th training camp practice session. Matlack is a Kansas City native who graduated from Olathe East High School. He's a familiar face for the Chiefs because Matlack was among the 60 undrafted free agents to participate as a tryout back in May at rookie minicamp.

Local player who graduated from Olathe East before spending time at K-State and Pitt.
Matlack is listed at 6-foot-5 and 254 pounds, and is quite an impressive athlete. He posted a 4.75-second 40-yard dash, a 4.3-second shuttle run, a 7.10-second three-cone, a 38.5-inch broad jump, and a 122-inch broad jump at his pro day. Over four seasons between the Wildcats and Panthers, he recorded 61 total tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks.
We don't yet have the corresponding roster move, but the Chiefs lost S Deon Bush to a season-ending Achilles injury in preseason Week 1 . It's also possible that DE Janarius Robinson will be out with an injury. He was seen shaken up after a play in the fourth quarter of the preseason Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, but there hasn't been an official update from the team on his injury or his status.
Worth noting: Chiefs DE Janarius Robinson (98), who had a sack vs. Cardinals, appeared to tweak something late in the game. Chiefs will provide full injury updates Monday. pic.twitter.com/BYi7eyJIhV

Chiefs Digest's Matt Derrick reports that both Bush and Robinson are out of training camp practice on Monday.

Chiefs have signed DL Nate Matlack, he’s wearing No. 57. S Deon Bush (Achilles) and DE Janarius Robinson out today.
Right now, this is a training camp body and depth signing for Kansas City. Matlack had a solid performance back at rookie minicamp and was clearly atop the team's call list should an injury occur. With a few training camp practices and two preseason games left to go, Matlack could parlay this opportunity into sticking around on the practice squad.
