Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Is Closing In On History
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs have boasted a roster of talented players over the years, but none have made quite the impact like Patrick Mahomes.

Since assuming the role of starting quarterback, Mahomes has single-handedly transformed the franchise’s fortunes.

Hailing from Texas Tech, Mahomes has not only met but surpassed all expectations, garnering talk that he could rival Tom Brady for the title of greatest player of all time.

Despite being in the league for less than a decade and taking over as a starter in 2018, Mahomes is already on the brink of becoming the Chiefs’ all-time passing leader, with just 84 yards separating him from surpassing Len Dawson’s record.

With an impressive 28,424 passing yards to his name, Mahomes has compiled a résumé worthy of a Hall of Famer, and he hasn’t even reached 29 years of age. His dominance has been unprecedented, leading the Chiefs to the AFC Championship Game in every season as a starter and making four Super Bowl appearances during that time.

Remarkably, Mahomes has only been bested by two quarterbacks in playoff matchups: Joe Burrow once and Tom Brady twice, boasting a remarkable 15-3 playoff record. He’s on track to shatter numerous quarterback records and could potentially lead the Chiefs to the elusive feat of a three-peat in the Super Bowl era.

While it may still be premature to declare him the undisputed Greatest of All Time (GOAT), Patrick Mahomes’ trajectory suggests that he’s well on his way to etching his name in NFL history as one of the greatest to ever play the game.
