The Kansas City Chiefs have their first additions to the injured reserve list following a pair of injuries during preseason Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals. They've had players revert to injured reserve after being waived with an injury designation, but this is the first time they've sent players directly to the reserve list.
According to the NFL's personnel notice for Monday, Aug. 11, the Chiefs placed S Deon Bush (Achilles) and DE Janarius Robinson (foot/toe) on injured reserve. The move for Bush was expected after Chiefs HC Andy Reid confirmed a ruptured Achilles tendon for the 10-year NFL veteran following the latest training camp practice. Robinson, who notched the Chiefs' lone sack in preseason Week 1, suffered his foot/toe injury late in the game. It turned out to be a minor fracture, but one that landed him on the reserve list.
While Bush's situation is likely season-ending due to the nature of the injury, there's still an opportunity for a player like Robinson to return to action for Kansas City. He could reach an injury settlement and return to the team at a later date, should he heal from his fracture.
The Chiefs placed S Deon Bush (Achilles) and DE Janarius Robinson (foot/toe) on injured reserve. They hosted DE Nate Matlack for a tryout and signed him to the 90-man roster (as we learned this morning). No other tryouts or transactions, which leaves the Chiefs with one free… pic.twitter.com/zcs9g6Zhvf

While you never want to see a player hurt, neither injury is back-breaking for Kansas City. Bush has been excellent depth at the safety spot for the past three seasons, but he was unlikely to earn a place on the 53-man roster unless there was attrition in the position group. Robinson was also a long shot to make the 53-man roster, competing for a spot on the practice squad.
The team made a single corresponding move on Monday, signing DE Nate Matlack to the 90-man offseason roster . That means the Chiefs currently have one open space on the roster that they could seek to fill before Friday's preseason Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks.
