Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes turns heel on 2028 Summer Olympics desires, citing a reason that no one can avoid

NFL players now have a prime opportunity in the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics. 

Recently, owners voted to allow players to be eligible to participate in the flag football competition, and people have already started putting together their dream teams. Many of those happen to have the Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback. 

But, what does Patrick Mahomes think about all of this?

“It’s awesome, honestly," he told reporters after OTAs on Thursday. "Just to be able to showcase the NFL to the whole world through flag football. 

However, he's not sure if it's the right opportunity for him. 

"But I’ll probably leave that to the younger guys," he added. "I’ll be a little old by the time that thing comes around.”

Mahomes' teammate Travis Kelce also recently reacted to this news, and said that he's interested in participating. Yet, it's not in the way everyone might think. 

"I've got to get hip to the rules, so I can get ahead of the curve," Travis said on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast. “Even if I’m just like an assistant coach or something. I gotta get in there somehow."

Mahomes is certainly regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the league and would be a prime candidate to lead Team USA. Plus, his three Super Bowl championships and three Super Bowl MVPs speak for themself. 

Hopefully in the next few years, Mahomes will change his mind and he'll take the field in red, white, and blue in 2028.
