Considering that Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce is one of the biggest names in football today and the fact that he’s the girlfriend of music icon Taylor Swift, it can be hard for some to remember that there used to be a time when he was barely someone whose name transcended beyond the realm of his sport.
Before he became a football superstar and arguably the best tight end in the history of the NFL, Kelce was just someone who was not even picked in the first or second round of the 2013 NFL draft.
In fact, Kelce got selected in the third round of that year’s draft, with the Chiefs taking him 63rd overall. Moreover, he was the fifth tight end in his class to be selected.
On Wednesday, the Chiefs shared a video of the exact moment that Kelce was selected by the Chiefs. It was clearly an emotional moment for him and his family, with no one having an idea of the incredible success he would achieve in his NFL career.

Before hearing his name in the NFL draft, Kelce saw tight ends Tyler Eifert, Zach Ertz, Gavin Escobar and Vance McDonald selected.
Since turning pro, Kelce, who’s now 35 years old, has earned 10 Pro Bowl nods, got four All-Pro First-Team selections, won three Super Bowls and set multiple franchise and NFL records. And he’s not done yet, as Kelce is returning for at least one more season, with the goal of helping the Chiefs win another Super Bowl.
