Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce continues to break records, even in a 'down' year

The Kansas City Chiefs just got "lucky" again in their win over the Los Angeles Chargers, in a game that saw the Chiefs clinch the AFC West for a ninth straight time, which is just wild to type out onto a computer screen, let alone say out loud. And in this game, we saw a great game from Travis Kelce, even if the numbers don't really jump off of the paper.

Kelce went five for 45 yards on Sunday against a good Chargers defense, leading the team in receptions and yards. Kelce was a huge part of the Chiefs getting in position to win the game, even if they did win off of a doink.

And, he also set and broke a new record, as he usually does every game now, he and Patrick Mahomes both. This time, it was another Chiefs legend in Tony Gonzales.

Here is what the Chiefs PR team tweeted out during the game about Kelce:

With his last reception, TE Travis Kelce has passed 12,000 career receiving yards. He becomes the fastest TE in NFL history to reach the mark, accomplishing the feat in just 172 career games, beating PFHOF TE Tony Gonzalez's previous mark for a TE of 210 games.

Kelce just keeps doing things that people expect him not to. Apparently, he is slowing down this year. This is a down year for him? No, not really, he is still just as good, the offense is just struggling and defenses are giving him different looks that make it harder for the Chiefs to gameplan around Kelce on offense.

But, hey, if there's a record in front of him, he's going to try to break it. After a win over the Chargers now, the Chiefs will face the Cleveland Browns and then the Houston Texans.
