The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off their first loss of the season and looking for a bounce back. They’ll be traveling to a familiar place to try and find a win.
The Chiefs will head to the Mile High City for an AFC West clash with the Denver Broncos on Sunday afternoon. Kansas City claimed a dominant 31-10 win over the Broncos in Week 1 at Arrowhead. Now they’ll attempt to sweep the season series in a tough road environment.
Kansas City and Denver have had their fair share of legendary matchups over the years. This weekend’s game should be no different, with first place in the division on the line. Before these two foes reignite their rivalry on Sunday, here’s a look at the series history.
The Chiefs and Broncos have met 133 times, with Kansas City winning 74 of those games. The last meeting between these two teams was that Week 1 victory for Kansas City. That win was the Chiefs’ first win over Denver since Nov. 10, 2024.
The first meeting between these two rivals was on Oct. 30, 1960. The Dallas Texans, who would become the Chiefs a few years later, picked up a 17-14 win over the Broncos. Kansas City won 25 of the first 27 games in this series, completely dominating Denver throughout the 60s and early 70s.
The Broncos started to find some rhythm in the 80s and won a fair share of these matchups in the 90s and 2000s. The tide shifted back to Kansas City in 2015. The Chiefs won 16 straight games over the Broncos between 2015 and 2023. Most of those wins came with Patrick Mahomes at the helm.
Mahomes is a dominant 14-2 against the Broncos in his career. In those 16 games, he’s completed 65.8% of his passes for 4,231 yards and 23 touchdowns. He has thrown 13 interceptions against Denver, which is a bit of a concerning stat. He’ll hope for another strong performance and a win on Sunday afternoon.
With first place in the AFC West on the line, the Chiefs and Broncos will kick off Sunday at 3:25 p.m. CST on CBS.
