Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 2 Opponent Revealed
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday, the NFL announced that the Kansas City Chiefs would take part in the opening kickoff game against the Baltimore Ravens. It was only fitting that the Chiefs would play in this game, considering they are the defending Super Bowl champions.

This left 16 other games on their schedule still undetermined. Now, a recent report provides clarity as to who Kansas City will be playing in their next game. Read below for more details.

Kansas City Chiefs Host Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2. This will take place on Sunday, September 15th, at 4:25 p.m. EST on CBS. It will also be a rematch of the 2022 and 2023 AFC Championship games respectively.

Something else that is notable about this announcement is the pattern developing for the Chiefs. As mentioned above, it was announced yesterday that the Chiefs would host the Ravens to open the 2024 NFL season. With this announcement following that up, it is confirmed that Kansas City will have back-to-back home game against AFC North opponents to start the season.

Other Kansas City Chiefs Home Games

The Chiefs have now had two of their home games announced for the 2024 NFL season. There are still six home games of theirs yet to be announced. Three of those games will be against their AFC West rivals.

That includes a matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers with Jim Harbaugh as the new head coach. Kansas City will also face the Las Vegas Raiders with Antonio Pierce as the full-time head coach. Plus, the Chiefs could potentially face rookie QB Bo Nix when they host the Denver Broncos.

So, who else do the Chiefs play at home next season? Their three other home opponents include the Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers respectively. Some highlights include another Super Bowl LV rematch as well as the first meeting between Patrick Mahomes and C.J. Stroud.

Potential Headlines

The biggest thing to look out for in this game is the health of Bengals QB Joe Burrow. Unfortunately, he dealt with multiple injuries last season. However, a significant wrist injury cut his 2023 NFL season short.

This arguably cost the Bengals a playoff spot last season. Prior to last year, the Bengals and Chiefs had two straight clashes in the AFC Championship. Cincinnati won the first meeting while Kansas City got revenge the following season. The Chiefs went on to win Super Bowl LVII while the Bengals ended up falling to the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI.

In the Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow era, the Bengals have won two out of three regular season clashes. However, Burrow did not play in the game that the Bengals lost.
