KC Chiefs 2024 NFL Draft: Every player selected at pick No. 32 since 2001
David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs hold pick No. 32 for the third time in the past five seasons after winning Super Bowl LVIII.

Over the past decade, NFL teams have found a ton of value with the final pick of the first round. It has proven to be a great spot to find future contributors at several important positions on both sides of the ball.

Here’s the list of each of the players drafted at pick No. 32 over the past 23 NFL drafts:

Every player drafted at pick No. 32 since 2001

  • 2023: Kansas City Chiefs select Kansas State DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah
  • 2022: Minnesota Vikings select Georgia S Lewis Cine
  • 2021: Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Washington OLB Joe Tryon-Shoyinka
  • 2020: Kansas City Chiefs select LSU RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire
  • 2019: New England Patriots select Arizona State WR N'Keal Harry
  • 2018: Baltimore Ravens select Louisville QB Lamar Jackson
  • 2017: New Orleans Saints select Wisconsin OT Ryan Ramczyk
  • 2016: Cleveland Browns select Oklahoma State DE Emmanuel Ogbah

  • 2013: Baltimore Ravens select Florida DB Matt Elam
  • 2012: New York Giants select Virginia Tech RB David Wilson
  • 2011: Green Bay Packers select Mississippi St. OT Derek Sherrod
  • 2010: New Orleans Saints select Florida State DB Patrick Robinson
  • 2009: Pittsburgh Steelers select Missouri DE Evander Hood
  • 2008: Miami Dolphins selected Clemson DE Phillip Merling
  • 2007: Indianapolis Colts select Ohio State WR Anthony Gonzalez
  • 2006: New York Giants select Boston College DE Mathias Kiwanuka
  • 2005: New England Patriots select Fresno State G Logan Mankins
  • 2004: New England Patriots select Georgia TE Ben Watson
  • 2003: Oakland Raiders select Colorado DE Tyler Brayton
  • 2002: Washington select Tulane QB Patrick Ramsey
  • 2001: San Diego Chargers select Purdue QB Drew Brees

What can we learn from this information?

During this stretch, 11 draft prospects selected played on the ball's defensive side, and 12 were offensive players. Shockingly, there have only been two wide receivers picked at No. 32 during that stretch and neither of them turned out to be very good. The offensive line is intriguing because All-Pro's like Logan Mankins (LG) and Ryan Ramczyk (RT), but not players who turned out to be solid at the Chiefs' biggest position of need (LT).

The ACC has the most players selected at pick No. 32 during this stretch with six players. They're followed by the Big 12 (5) and SEC (5) Big 10 (3), Pac 12 (2), C-USA (1), and the now-defunct Western Athletic Conference (1). Some ACC players to watch out for include FSU DE Jared Verse, Clemson CB Nate Wiggins, and Duke OL Graham Barton. Some Big 12 players to watch out for include Texas WRs Adonai Mitchell and Xavier Worthy, as well as Oklahoma OT Tyler Guyton. As far as the SEC is concerned, Georgia WR Ladd McConkey and Missouri DL Darius Robinson.

The Chiefs could be in prime position to trade out with a quarterback-needy team. In the last 23 years, four quarterbacks have been selected at pick No. 32. One of them will be a Pro Football Hall of Famer (Drew Brees) and another just earned his second league MVP (Lamar Jackson). Several No. 32 picks have been traded in the last 10 years alone. The Lions traded No. 32 to the Vikings in 2022 (Lewis Cine), the Eagles traded No. 32 to the Ravens in 2018 (Jackson), the Patriots traded No. 32 to the Saints in 2017 (Ryan Ramczyk), and the Seahawks traded No. 32 to the Vikings in 2014 (Teddy Bridgewater). That doesn't even include 2016, where the final pick in the first round was not No. 32 because the Patriots were stripped of that pick due to the Deflategate scandal. Pick No. 31, held by the Broncos, was traded to the Seahawks to end the first round.

On a non-serious note, Kansas City seemingly likes players with hyphenated names at pick No. 32. So watch out for Alabama CB Kool-Aid McKinstry and Oregon C Jackson Powers-Johnson in that spot.
