Kellen Moore job security questions connect to Dak Prescott problems

Is Dallas offensive coordinator Kellen Moore on the hot seat?

QB Dak Prescott's erratic play in 2022 may put him there.

"I don't want to play this game today," Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said at a news conference Thursday when asked about Moore's status. "Kellen Moore, just like the rest of the coaches, will be evaluated." 

McCarthy not giving Moore a vote of confidence may come as a surprise to some. Since taking over in 2019, Moore's offenses have ranked in the top 10 three times. In 2021, Prescott excelled, throwing a career-best 37 TDs.

But Dallas has won only one playoff game in its past four seasons and suffered consecutive post-season heartbreaks against San Francisco. 

Change is inevitable. The Cowboys cut ties with six assistant coaches this week, per NBC Sports' Mike Florio, so Moore could be under the microscope too.  

In three of the past four seasons, Prescott has thrown for 10 or more interceptions, including a career-high 15 in 12 games this season, tied for the league lead. His QBR dropped to 56.2 this season, slightly above average. In 2019, he had a QBR of 71.9.
